What is puffy barberry?
puffed barberry, puffy barberry or pofaki barberry are 3 names for the same product which is a type of dried barberry. There are two types of dried red barberry ( berberis Vulgaris or common barberry ):
- Anari barberry or sun-dried barberry
- Puffed barberry or air-dried barberry
Here we focus on air-dried barberry. As we mentioned above, it is also called puffy barberry, puffed barberry, and pofaki barberry.
How puffy barberry is produced?
All drying methods are still based on traditional techniques. The drying machines still don’t produce good quality barberry. In traditional methods of drying barberry, the harvesting and the place of drying has the most effects on the final product.
For producing puffy barberry, the branch of a barberry bush should be cut with the fruits. see the following picture:
the branches get transferred to a big place or an industrial shed. The branches will get hanged there. The air flows inside the shed. The barberry fresh fruit slowly loses the water. As this process happens in something like 4-6 months of time, the fruit preserves its volume the most. The final product looks like the following picture:
